Meet Tequina Adams-Ballew, LCSW
I want to support each of my clients by understanding they are all unique and require different things. For each person I want to create a space that feels reflective, grounded, compassionate, and non-judgemental. Together we can explore the ways that your experiences, values, lifestyle, environment, belief systems, and social supports impact you as a whole. I am passionate about supporting my clients to find the most authentic and true forms of themselves by unmasking, relearning, and improving overall well being.
Therapy is different. Despite the years of training, theory, and practice there are other levels of consider here as well. First, a therapist gives you an environment free from judgement and it offers confidentiality, keeping your experiences private and undisclosed. Secondly, therapists work to validate our clients but a good therapist also challenges their clients to shift their perspective, notice their automatic reactions, reflect on their values, undo old programming, and change their actions.
Healing takes time, dedication, and some emotional pain. There is no set timeline and some show progress quickly while others take time due to deep seeded core beliefs and histories of complex and compounding experiences. Together we will work to break down your core beliefs, emotional experiences, physiological reactions, stories, and traumatic events to keep them from intruding on your life and well being. Healing from trauma looks different for each individual but please know there is hope, it is possible, and your can revive yourself to live your fullest life!
Contrary to popular belief, anxiety is not something you have to live with forever. Anxiety is adaptive and initially quite important for our survival. Only when it begins to intrude on your life, well being, and in your relationships does it become a disorder. Working on anxiety means learning to understand how it functions, why it works the way it does and ways to interfere in your neutralizing behavior. We may explore various ways to exposure yourself to fears while learning to cope with anxiety and not treat it as a threat. Additionally, we may explore deep rooted fears or past experiences which may compound and contribute to. your symptoms. In time you may find you are less reactive to triggers, better able to cope and regulate, and more aware of what anxiety is and how it functions.
